# Barcode scanner online: your phone's camera reads it, and every scan is counted.

> Scan barcodes with your phone camera or a hand scanner: see each code's type, check digit and country, count your stock and download it for Excel. Free.

Dashing (dashing.krd) is a point-of-sale, inventory and double-entry accounting platform for retail shops in Iraq — Arabic-first, also in Kurdish (Sorani) and English — with a cashier that works offline and a built-in AI assistant called Dash.

Open the camera and hold packs under it one by one: each read shows the barcode, its type and whether the check digit holds, and adds one to that product's line. The finished list downloads as an Excel sheet, with the barcode kept as text.

## Which phones and scanners work

The camera reads on Android, iPhone and iPad, and on a computer with a camera: where the browser has a barcode reader of its own it is used, elsewhere a reader is downloaded once from this site. A USB or Bluetooth hand scanner types the code into the box and presses Enter itself, so it works on a computer with no camera at all.

## Counting stock with a phone

Scan every pack on a shelf; a pack held under the camera counts once, and the same product scanned again adds one to its line. Type a quantity when a carton holds many, and a name and a price against any line. The list stays in this browser, so a count interrupted by a customer is still there when you come back.

## The Excel file

Four columns: barcode, name, price and quantity. The barcode is stored as text, so Excel shows all 13 digits instead of 6.29E+12. A list with a name and a price on every line imports into Dashing as products with their opening stock.

## What a barcode tells you

The first digits of an EAN-13 name the GS1 office where the company registered its number, not the country the product was made in; the last digit checks the others, so a misread shows as a wrong check digit. For the product's name and photo, the scanner asks the open product databases when you tell it to.

## Common questions

### Does it work on an iPhone?

Yes. Safari on iPhone and iPad has no built-in barcode reader, so the page downloads one from this site the first time you open the camera; then it reads as it does on Android.

### Can I use a hand scanner?

Yes. A USB or Bluetooth scanner types into the code box and presses Enter, and each read adds one to the list the way the camera does.

### Is my list saved?

In this browser on this device, until you clear it. Download the Excel file to keep it anywhere else.

### Why did a pack not count twice?

A pack held under the camera counts once. Move it away and back, or press + on its line, to count a second one.
