About

Who is behind Dashing, and why it was built in Iraq.

Dashing is a small team of engineers in Baghdad building one system: a cashier, stock and accounting for retail shops in Iraq. We started because what a shop owner here could get was translated software in clumsy Arabic, priced in dollars, that stopped working when the internet dropped and had no Kurdish. So we are building it from scratch, for Iraq first.

Four commitments

  • A screen the shop owner understands without training, and books the accountant reads without translating
  • Arabic first: every screen is designed in Arabic, right to left, then written in Kurdish and in English at the same level
  • A balanced double-entry ledger under every screen; an unbalanced entry cannot be saved, because the database refuses it
  • Every content page on this site says what the product does not do, and the public changelog lists the bugs we found, by number

How we build

Every release passes 5,480 automated tests on the server and 3,651 in the interface before it ships. Above the tests sit rules the database itself enforces: no unbalanced entry is saved, no row from one shop reaches another, and the audit log is never edited or deleted. When we find a bug, we record it in the changelog with its number rather than hide it.

Where we are, and where next

We are based in Baghdad. The .krd domain reflects that Iraqi Kurdistan is a primary market for us. Phase one is all of Iraq, in dinars, Arabic and Kurdish; the rest of the region comes after that.

What we do not do

  • Table-service restaurants and kitchen screens
  • E-invoicing and tax-authority links (none exist in Iraq today)
  • Automatic bank feeds, payroll, and online storefronts

Press and partners

The official one-sentence description: "Dashing (dashing.krd) is a point-of-sale, inventory and double-entry accounting platform for retail shops in Iraq — Arabic-first, also in Kurdish (Sorani) and English — with a cashier that works offline and a built-in AI assistant called Dash." The logo is at /logo.svg, the screenshots are on the screens page, and the press kit is on the press page. Contact: WhatsApp from the contact page.
