Barcode 040–049: which country is it from?

These numbers are printed by a shop or a manufacturer for internal use: a label for an item packed in the store, or an item that is never sold outside it. They point to no country, and the same number can mean two different products in two shops.

Prefix 040

Restricted circulation / coupons

The organisation that registered the company number — not necessarily where the product was made. The check digit is valid.

Common questions

How do I know the number is valid?

The last digit of a barcode is a check digit computed from the twelve before it. Type the full number into the tool: if the check digit does not match, the barcode was misprinted or misread. A valid number proves the barcode is well-formed; it does not prove the product is genuine.

Why is the product not found?

The product name comes from an open database that people add products to. It has most well-known brands and misses many local products. If the product is not found, the number is not necessarily wrong; nobody has added it yet.

Dashing does this for every item, automatically, in your shop.
