The cycle count: the differences item by item. A posted count: counted against expected, the difference per item and its value, and stock and books adjusted together on posting.Clip page

Steps

  1. Open the item from "Inventory" and press "Adjust stock".
  2. Choose the reason: "Restock" (an increase without a purchase order), "Damage / loss", "Count correction", or "Opening quantity" at the start of business.
  3. Enter the "Qty" (and the unit cost for restock and opening). The system shows "On hand" and "On hand after".
  4. Write a "Note (optional)…" — a reason your accountant understands a month later.
  5. Press "Apply". The line appears in "Stock movements" with the type, quantity before and after, and who did it.

What happens in the books

Restock/opening: inventory debited. Damage: a loss debited and inventory credited. Correction: by direction. All at the item's cost, with a balanced entry.

What the system does not do

It does not allow adjusting an item in a branch you have no permission for.

Common questions

When do I use an adjustment and when a purchase order?
Goods from a supplier are received with a purchase order (so their balance and cost are booked). An adjustment is for single cases: damage, loss, a correction, or an opening quantity at the start.
Can I adjust to a negative quantity?
No. The quantity does not go below zero by adjustment; if the on-hand figure is wrong, a count of the item, then committing it, is the right fix.
