Returns with or without a receipt, in cash or as credit
Recording a returned item: by finding the original invoice or without it, choosing the units returned, refunding in cash or as credit, and the effect on stock.

A return in Dashing is always a documented operation: the item goes back to stock, the money is refunded in cash or stays as customer credit, and the entry appears in the books.
Steps
- From the sell screen press "Return".
- With a receipt: choose "Return with receipt", enter the "Invoice number" or scan its code, and press "Find".
- Without a receipt: choose "Return without receipt", search the item in "Search the returned product…", and enter the "Sale price at purchase"; it is used to find the matching sale.
- Set the "Units returned" per line with "Increase" and "Decrease".
- Choose the "Refund": "Cash" takes the amount out of the shift's drawer, or "Credit" adds it to the customer's balance for a later purchase.
- Confirm; "Return recorded." appears.
What happens in the books and stock
The quantity returns to the branch's stock, sales are reversed by the amount returned, and the cost of goods comes back; a cash refund appears in the shift report as a return, and customer credit appears on their page.
What the system does not do
- It does not enforce a return-period policy; the allowed window for finding a matching invoice is a system setting, and the refund policy is your decision.
- It does not print a separate return receipt automatically; the original invoice shows what was returned.
Common questions
- Can I delete a wrong invoice instead of returning it?
- No. Invoices are never deleted; a return (or a void) is a visible reversing entry that stays in the log under the name of whoever did it.
- The customer has no receipt and does not remember the date.
- Use "Return without receipt": search the item, enter the sale price at purchase, and the system looks for a matching sale within the allowed window.
